Professional Development

Currently, our primary areas of professional development are:

  • Putting the Movement Back into Civil Rights Teaching, and
  • Early Childhood Equity Initiative.

Putting the Movement Back into Civil Rights Teaching
Teaching for Change has offered workshops, courses, and institutes on the award-winning publication, Putting the Movement Back into Civil Rights Teaching for the National Education Association, PBS on the re-release of Eyes on the Prize, the New England Association of Multicultural Education (NAME), Teachers for Social Justice, DC Public Schools, and many more organizations. Teaching for Change is honored to be working with the McComb, Mississippi Public Schools to infuse lessons about the Civil Rights Movement and the local labor history throughout the curriculum. This effort is supported by Teaching Tolerance and the Kellogg Foundation.

Early Childhood Education Initiative (ECEI): For the past four years, Teaching for Change has offered training to core groups of early childhood educators in the DC area on anti-bias, culturally responsive education. We are now working with alumni to play a leadership role in the initiative in DC and to assist with national expansion of the ECEI model. This effort is supported by the Peppercorn Foundation.
